Understanding ultrasound
Ultherapy revitalizes skin with ultrasound energy. Ultrasound simply refers to high frequency sound waves, inaudible to humans. This energy is characterized by vibrations at a frequency greater than 20,000 Hz. Ultrasound is readily absorbed by the skin, where sound waves are converted to thermal energy – heat. Ultherapy directs this heat to specific skin layers, triggering production of collagen. This fibrous meshwork of proteins gives structure to skin, keeping it youthfully firm and thick.
Lifted and refreshed – without surgery
As we age, our bodies generate less collagen. In addition, exposure to sun and environmental pollutants breaks down existing stores of collagen. These changes appear on the complexion:
- Skin becomes thinner.
- Lines and winkles form at the brow.
- Sags appear at chin and jowls.
- Skin on the neck and chest becomes crepey.
These areas can be effectively addressed with Ultherapy. A session takes about an hour, and no anesthetic is necessary. Usually just one treatment is needed, for noticeable results in two to three months. If you feel like you deserve a full makeover, Dr. Menkes will be happy to design a comprehensive rejuvenation program, combining Ultherapy with other non-surgical treatments such as chemical peels, skin rejuvenation, Botox, and dermal fillers.
